The Minnesota Twins topped the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-3, in American League action at Target Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Minnesota pitcher Dean Schuurmans. Schuurmans got the win, improving to 12-8. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 7.2 innings. He allowed 3 runs. Carlos Mella earned his 9th save, after closing out the game.

Bret McBride, who is tied for 7th in the AL with a .548 slugging percentage, took Tampa Bay hurler Matt Manzolillo deep in the bottom of the second. His 2-run home run put the Twins on top, 2-0. In all, McBride had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
