Reds Win at Home, 5-1
|
The Cincinnati Reds took on the Washington Nationals at Great American Ball Park.
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Washington Nationals, 5-1. Cincinnati pitcher and Fruitvale, Colorado, native Kyle Gruhlke led the way. Gruhlke, now 5-3, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.
Adam Powers had a big 3-run home run for the Reds in the bottom of the second inning. With Cincinnati leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a cutter from Jesus Duran, who is tied for 8th in the NL in quality starts with 14, and punished it. The result was his 24th home run of the season, which put the Reds on top, 4-0.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Powers said in reaction to the win.
The current losing streak for Washington has reached 4 games.
