Mets Dump Milwaukee, 5-1, to Win 5th in a Row
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the fan favorite Scott Hatcher, the New York Mets stopped the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-1, in 9 innings. The win makes New York 69-74.
Gil Berrios had a big solo home run for the Mets in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from Ivan Gonzales, who is tied for 6th in the NL in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 3-1.
"I know everybody in here is putting in the work," said Milwaukee manager Danny Post. "It's just not paying off."
