Mariners Earn Clutch Win, 4-3
|
Colorado got a decent performance from pitcher Casey Neill, but it wasn't enough to beat the Seattle Mariners. Seattle won the Safeco Field contest, 4-3. Neill threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Alex Franco earned his 14th save, after closing out the game. The third-place Rockies dropped to 78-65.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Phil Robbins came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Colorado pitcher Leo Hard, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Seattle on top, 4-3.
Seattle manager Jim McClintic called it "a darn good win."
