The Houston Astros racked up a win at Minute Maid Park, bumping off the Cleveland Guardians, 8-1. Humberto Valenzuela, who started for Houston, pitched effectively for his team. Valenzuela, the winner, moves to 11-12. He threw 7.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 6 walks. Houston is now 83-62.
Johnny Johnson hit a 2-run home run off Cody Bechtold in the bottom of the third, which put the Astros ahead, 2-0. In addition to the homer, Johnson had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
"We understand we didn't play our best baseball," said losing manager Danny Jaime. "We'll shower it off and be ready to compete."
