Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Tampa Bay Rays take on the Boston Red Sox.

The Tampa Bay Rays had no problem beating the Boston Red Sox, 13-2, at Jon Nunez Sr. Stadium. Aaron Hayes, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2100 draft, led the onslaught. He was 4 for 5 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 4 runs for Tampa Bay. The winning pitcher was Eddie Melendez. He's now 4-3. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits for the Rays.

The Red Sox had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Rays going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old right fielder Brian Benn came to the plate. Benn hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 knuckle curve from Boston hurler Zach Stout. It was Benn's 29th double of the year.

"Not much went right for us," Boston manager Michael Meagher said, when asked afterward about the game.

The Rays, at 61-82, sit in third place in the American League East Division.
