Phillies Sneak By Giants, 7-6
|
The Philadelphia Phillies overcame a good performance by San Francisco catcher Ivan Escalante to knock off San Francisco, 7-6, at Citizens Bank Park. Escalante went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Greg Dahlgren snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 3.1 innings. He's now 5-16 on the season. The Phillies raised their record to 59-86.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Justin Sieler came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing San Francisco pitcher Rafael Alejandro, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 7-6.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Phillies manager John Lucidi. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
