Red Sox Lose to Astros, 8-4
The Houston Astros topped the Boston Red Sox, 8-4, with center fielder Paul Bown playing a big role. Bown went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Astros in the win. Houston reliever Mike McCormick got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Steve Johnson was tagged with the loss. Houston improves to 84-61 with the win. They lead their division by 4½ games.

The Red Sox had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Astros going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 32-year old first baseman Hideyuki Takahashi came to the plate. Takahashi hit a 3-run home run on a full count sinker from Boston hurler Steve Johnson. It was Takahashi's 41st home run of the year.

"The credit goes to our offense," said Houston manager Zeb Currier.
