The Chicago Cubs did just enough to sneak past the San Francisco Giants, 6-5, at Wrigley Field. Chicago pitcher Marco Gutierrez, in particular, had a standout performance. Gutierrez got the win, improving to 7-9. He gave up 5 hits and walked 3 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 3 runs. Doug Curtis, credited with the save, is now 24 for 30 in save opportunities.

Ed Medina hit a run-scoring triple off Men Pimentel in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Cubs in front, 4-3. Medina had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Medina.

The win for the Cubs raised their record to 78-67.
