Houston second baseman Johnny Johnson was instrumental in helping the Astros triumph, 7-6, over the Boston Red Sox. Johnson was 2-3 with a double and a walk. The win elevated the Astros to 85-61.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Houston second baseman Elza Gravito, facing Scott Duree, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Astros the 7-6 win.

"First place," said Astros manager Zeb Currier. "This is right where we want to be."
