San Diego Wins, 2-1, Over Cardinals
|
The San Diego Padres topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1, the lion's share of the credit going to center fielder Mike McNamara. On the day, McNamara went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Padres. Willie Guzman got credit for the win, improving to 10-5. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Mark Carnathan, credited with the save, is now 3 for 8 in save opportunities.
McNamara had a timely hit for San Diego in the bottom of the eighth. With San Diego trailing 1-0, he turned a 1-2 fastball into a 2-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season, making it 2-1, San Diego.
San Diego manager Tim Lentz called it "a darn good win."
