Late Rally by Pirates Locks Up 4-3 Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago White Sox by a score of 4-3. Pittsburgh second baseman Phil Samsa deserved the lion's share of the credit. Samsa was 4-4 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 runs for the Pirates. Mike Garrett came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 4-7. Dana House converted his 17th save in 22 tries.
Pittsburgh used the clutch hitting of Carlos Flores to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Pirates the lead, 4-3. For the game, Flores had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Samsa.
The Pirates bumped their record to 76-71 with this win.
