|
Kansas City turned a good effort from starter Hugo Coates into a win over the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. The final score was 4-1. Coates picked up the win for Kansas City, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 10-11. Picking up the save was 29-year old right-handed pitcher Ryan Washington.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Manuel Gutierrez to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Royals on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Hugo has got a slow heartbeat," said Kansas City manager Connor Gould. "He doesn't panic or anything."
Cleveland has now lost 4 consecutive games.
