Rays Take Down Yankees, 2-1
|
The Tampa Bay Rays finished things off in style.
The Rays earned a hard-fought, 2-1 win in 11 innings at Jon Nunez Sr. Stadium. To do so required withstanding a fine effort from New York pitcher Pablo Castaneda. Castaneda went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. Malachi Scott, now 4-1, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0.
The Rays got a clutch hit from shortstop Paul Shapiro. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Rays.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said Tampa Bay manager Kyle Delgado.
The Yankees, at 36-113, have lost 24 in a row.
