Angels Sneak By Mariners, 6-5
|
The Los Angeles Angels spoiled a good performance by Seattle first baseman Billy Barnhart, bumping off Seattle, 6-5, at Safeco Field. Barnhart was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2. Ryan Masterson, the winner, is now 13-9. He struck out 2 and walked 1 over 7 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. Jimmy Powell converted his 1st save in 4 tries.
Los Angeles used a timely hit from Scott Hoagland to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Angels ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said Seattle manager Jonah Beckenstein.
The Mariners, now 51-99, have lost 4 in a row.
