Late Offense Lifts Boston to 5-3 Victory
|
The New York Yankees got a superb performance from first baseman George Canning, but the Boston Red Sox still won the game, 5-3. Canning was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The Red Sox, at 76-75, sit in third place in the American League East Division.
Boston used the timely hitting of Alex Tarango to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We came in and did what we needed to do," said Boston manager Michael Meagher.
