Cleveland Hands Detroit 7-4 Defeat
|
Getting a good performance from first baseman Brian Ellis, the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Detroit Tigers, 7-4. Ellis went 1-2 with a home run and 3 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for the Guardians. Bobby Quinn, the winner, improved to 13-10. He held the Tigers to 1 run on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Earning the save was Pablo Iglesias. He's now cashed in 29 of 35 save opportunities.
Cleveland second baseman Gustavo Franco helped his team get ahead early. In the top of the first, with the bases loaded, he hit a sacrifice fly.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Ellis told the Cleveland Bulletin. "It's as simple as that."
The 4th-place Guardians have a record of 73-78.
