Cardinals Win at Home, 5-3
|
Bill McEnerney, who finished 3rd in the NL in innings pitched with 206.2 in 2105, was locked in. The right-hander led the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-3 win against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium. McEnerney picked up the win for St. Louis, going 5 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 10-4. Picking up the save was Benny Morgan, his 38th.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from designated hitter Chad Gutshall. For the game, Gutshall was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 45th home run of the season gave St. Louis a 3-0 lead.
"The name on the front of this uniform is all that matters to me," Gutshall told the St. Louis Observer. "And padding the St. Louis win column."
The win hiked the St. Louis record to 88-63.
