Red Sox Squeeze By Tampa Bay, 4-3
|
The Boston Red Sox weathered a fine game by Tampa Bay first baseman Dan Wimmer to upend the Rays, 4-3, at Jon Nunez Sr. Stadium. Wimmer went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. At 74-78, the Red Sox find themselves in third place in the American League East Division.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Alex Tarango was at the plate when Boston scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Red Sox to go in front, 4-3.
Boston manager Michael Meagher was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
