The Red Sox grabbed a win, 3-2, at Fenway Park, overcoming a fine effort from New York pitcher Dan Simon. Simon went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. The Red Sox go to 80-71, putting them second in the American League East Division.

Boston got a knockout punch from Shamel Sanchez. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Sanchez said in his postgame press conference.
