Cardinals Hand Chicago 5-2 Loss
|
St. Louis starter Steve Gbur pitched well against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-2. In 5 innings, Gbur surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Benny Morgan recorded the save for St. Louis, his 38th of the season.
Justin Brown had a big 3-run home run for the Cardinals in the bottom of the sixth inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a sinker from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Ben Dolan and punished it. The result was his 17th home run of the season, which put the Cardinals on top, 4-0.
Said losing manager Vin Calia: "Give the Cardinals credit. They played a better game than we did."
The third-place Cardinals lifted their record to 84-68.
