Mariners Tuck Away 4-1 Win Over Pittsburgh
|
Behind a fine performance from Sam Stewart, the Seattle Mariners knocked off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-1. Stewart went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Mariners. Adrian Pendleton, who is tied for 10th in the AL in quality starts with 16, was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Seattle currently is in 4th place in the American League West Division at 74-78.
With Seattle trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, Stewart hit a sinker from Matt Young for a 2-run double. It was his 31st double of the season and put the Mariners ahead, 2-1.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Pittsburgh manager Merlyn Evans.
