Red Sox Handle New York, Snag 4-3 Win
|
The Boston Red Sox scored a tight, 4-3 win versus the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. Boston pitcher Eric Huffman held his own in the contest. Huffman yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. His record improves to 12-9. Carlos Lorenzo was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 31 of 38 save opportunities.
Boston designated hitter Antonio Garcia contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a splitter to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 105th hit of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 4-1.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Huffman.
Boston has now won 5 games in a row.
