The Detroit Tigers got a superb performance from pitcher Jen-kan Tow, but the New York Yankees still won the game, 6-5. Tow came in in relief and pitched to 17 batters. Ben McKie picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 4-2. Scott Duree suffered the loss. The Yankees have now reeled off 8 straight wins.

Hugo Vitagliano was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Yankees third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Detroit manager Chris Gasparro. "But we decided not to take it."
