Kansas City Defeated By White Sox, 3-1
|
Chicago got a first-rate effort from pitcher Alfredo Cortez, who frustrated Kansas City hitters en route to a 3-1 White Sox triumph at U.S. Cellular Field. Cortez, now 10-10, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Jim Bush notched his 3rd save of the season.
With scoring opportunities rare, the White Sox had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when center fielder Troy Loyd hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Scott Bowling and made the score 1-0, White Sox. Loyd was 1 for 4.
"We did a lot of really good things and it was a good win," said White Sox manager Bryce Reigns.
The second-place White Sox go to 86-68.
