Oakland Beats Philadelphia, 3-1
|
The Oakland Athletics got a magnificent effort from pitcher John Wilson, who kept Philadelphia hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Athletics win at Citizens Bank Park. Wilson, the winner, moves to 12-12. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. Nick Rodriquez picked up the save for Oakland, his 36th of the year.
Oakland won the game in part because of Alex Moncivaiz. The center fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Athletics ahead, 1-0. For the game, Moncivaiz had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"John was pretty good at keeping their guys off-balance," said Oakland manager Jon Pearson.
The Athletics raised their record to 75-79.
