Blue Jays Pull Out Late Win, 3-2
|
The Boston Red Sox got a sterling performance from pitcher Eric Huffman, but the Toronto Blue Jays still prevailed, 3-2. Huffman threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Toronto pitcher Jay Courtney earned the win, hiking his record to 5-0. John Souza suffered the loss. The Blue Jays lead the American League East Division by 15 games.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, two-time All-Star Tom Monroe had a real shot to win the game. Boston pitcher John Souza was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Monroe hit a run-scoring single. The Blue Jays had a walk-off triumph.
"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said Blue Jays manager Dan Silva.
