Pittsburgh Downed, 6-3, by Braves
|
Atlanta picked up a win at PNC Park, bumping off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-3. Pitcher Andy Bourdeau was a major reason the Braves emerged victorious. Bourdeau yielded 3 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 10. His record improves to 20-10. Tony Martinez closed it out for Atlanta, earning his 28th save.
Eric Fairweather drove in one run for Atlanta. The 27-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With no one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Willie Lopez. It was his 81st RBI of the season.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Fairweather told the Atlanta Daily. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
With the win, Atlanta raised its record to 87-69.
