Orioles Get Gritty, 2-1 Win
|
The Baltimore Orioles had to overcome a fine effort from Tampa Bay pitcher Joseph Fisher to win, 2-1, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Fisher went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner was Baltimore reliever Tim Huntress, now 6-2. The loser was Zack Eilers. Picking up the save was Pete Fordyce. He's now 11 for 14 in save chances.
Had Joseph Thomson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Thomson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Orioles.
"It's fun to come to the yard every day when you're winning," said Baltimore manager Art Matlock.
The second-place Orioles have won 8 straight.
