St. Louis picked up a win at Coca-Cola Field, bumping off the Atlanta Braves, 4-3. Pitcher Dan Filippone was a major reason the Cardinals emerged victorious. Filippone, the winner, moves to 1-4. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. St. Louis has now won 5 in a row.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Matt Stripling? The 22-year old shortstop Stripling stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put St. Louis up, 4-2. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Dan did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said St. Louis manager Leyland Thomas.
