Nelson hits 21st home run in Pittsburgh Win

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Washington Nationals, 9-3, in National League action at Nationals Park. Jonathan Nelson pulled his weight. The 14-year veteran went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Ivan Juarez, the winner, improved to 8-6. He held Washington to 2 runs on 6 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Washington has now lost 6 consecutive games.
Had Mark Norlander not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Norlander hit a 2-run single. That made the score 2-0, in favor of the Pirates.
"You start putting runs on the board and winning, everyone's going to get excited," said Nelson.
