Red Sox Prevail, 6-4, Over Cleveland
|
Thanks in large part to second baseman Alex Tarango, the Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians, 6-4. Tarango was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. The win was credited to 26-year old left-handed pitcher Tim Payton in relief. His record improves to 1-6. Matt Zmuda took the loss. Scott Duree earned his 26th save in 29 tries.
The Red Sox had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 6-4, Boston, with one out. Cleveland, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Bill Widby dug in at the plate, but on a first pitch sinker, he popped out.
With the win, the Red Sox have a record of 80-79.
