Athletics Need Extra Innings to Top Rangers, 7-3
|
Mark Hovell batted in 6 runs to lead Oakland to an extra-inning win over Texas. The final score was 7-3. Hovell chipped in 3 singles and 1 home run. Mike O'Donovan snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 2 innings. He's now 4-2 on the season. Oakland raised its record to 90-69 with the win.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 16th. With two out, Hovell hit a cutter from Salvatore Ayala for a grand slam home run. The Athletics, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This game had its share of tense moments," Hovell said, postgame.
