Lindberg Swings Braves to 9-3 Win
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves get after it.
The Atlanta Braves grabbed a win, 9-3, over the St. Louis Cardinals at Coca-Cola Field. Atlanta left fielder Bill Lindberg went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 and driving in 3. Andy Bourdeau picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 15-7.
Francisco Galdamez had a big 3-run home run for the Braves in the bottom of the third inning. With Atlanta leading 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a changeup from Bill McEnerney, who is tied for 9th in the NL in wins with 14, and punished it. The result was his 34th home run of the season, which put the Braves on top, 5-1.
"It was a tough day, no getting around it," said losing manager Leyland Thomas.
The second-place Braves sport a record of 78-81.
