Pirates Get Clonked by Dodgers, 5-2
Pittsburgh catcher Alex Velazquez was sensational. He was 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Los Angeles beat the Pirates, 5-2. Dennis Emmons earned the save, his 2nd in 2 tries. Pittsburgh has now lost 4 consecutive games.

The Dodgers got an important contribution from designated hitter Victor Salinas, who in the bottom of the first punched a 2-0 fastball into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 18th double of the season and put the Dodgers ahead, 3-0.

Salinas called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
