The Texas Rangers got a superb performance from pitcher Dan Hofmann, but the Houston Astros still won the game, 6-5. Hofmann threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Houston reliever Chad Wilson picked up the win to move to 4-3. Kevin Carlton suffered the loss. The second-place Astros have won 4 consecutive games.

Houston used the timely hitting of Victor Valdez to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Astros on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Valdez said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
