The Texas Rangers weathered a fine game by Houston designated hitter Alex Perez to upend the Astros, 10-3, at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Perez went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. The win elevated the Rangers to 85-75.

The Rangers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Charlie Gagne. For the game, Gagne went 1-5 with a home run. In the bottom of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Texas a 4-3 lead.

"I was hoping to make good contact," said Gagne. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
