Braves Beat Pittsburgh, 2-1
|
The Braves faced a stiff challenge from Pittsburgh pitcher Victor Gonzalez, but persevered to claim a win at Coca-Cola Field. The final score was 2-1. Gonzalez went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Reliever Jaime Cotton picked up the win. His record improves to 4-4. Kyle Nichols took the loss. Atlanta currently is in third place in the National League East Division at 82-78.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 3rd and two out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when first baseman Jimmy Powell, who is on pace for 111 RBI this season, hit a run-scoring single. The Braves went on to win.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Powell.
