Nationals Stick Rays with 7-1 Loss
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 29-year old catcher Mike Germain, the Washington Nationals defeated the Tampa Bay Rays, 7-1. Washington reliever Roberto Trejo got the win, raising his record to 1-3. Erik Lepore was tagged with the loss. The Nationals, at 77-83, sit in last place in the National League East Division.
The Nationals got a big at-bat from shortstop Chris Anderson. For the game, Anderson went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 21st home run of the season gave Washington a 4-1 lead.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Germain told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
