The first-place Pittsburgh Pirates picked up another win.

The Pittsburgh Pirates knocked off the New York Mets, 8-4, at PNC Park. Mark Tallman hit 3 singles and 1 double, while driving in 3 runs. Russ Einhorn, who finished 3rd in the NL in ERA with 2.68 in 2106, was the winner. He's now 13-7. The loser was Mike Newman.

Tallman contributed in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one at-bat among others that helped Pittsburgh get the win.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said Pittsburgh manager Merlyn Evans.

The Pirates, at 94-66, have a comfortable 14½-game lead in their division.
