The New York Yankees faced a tenacious opponent in Boston pitcher Dave Salvaggio, but still scratched out a win at Yankee Stadium by a final score of 4-3 in 13 innings. Salvaggio went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. The win went to Ben McKie in relief, making him now 6-6. Rich Friesz took the loss for Boston. The Yankees go to 65-97, putting them 4th in the American League East Division.

The decisive blow was delivered by Steve Marston in the bottom of the 13th when he hit a run-scoring double off former first round draft pick Rich Friesz to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.

In postgame comments, Marston said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
