The New York Yankees topped the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-3, at Rogers Centre. New York second baseman Steve Marston was a spark plug for the offense. He was 4 for 5 with 4 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The Yankees saw their win-loss record go to 90-72. At the same time, the Blue Jays fell to 91-71.

The Blue Jays had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Yankees going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old shortstop Markevian Gravel came to the plate. Gravel hit a run-scoring triple on a 2-1 fastball from Toronto hurler Jim Gamblin. It was Gravel's 5th triple of the year.

"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Toronto manager Rodney Smith.
