Tigers Post 6-3 Win Over Cleveland
|
With first baseman Casey Peterson leading the charge, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 6-3, at Progressive Field. Peterson, who is tied for 9th in the AL with a .954 OPS, was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Dong-joon Shinn snagged the win in relief. He goes to 19-4 on the season. Matt Mattingly suffered the loss. The win hiked the Detroit record to 83-79.
Blake Hubka had a big 2-run home run for the Tigers in the top of the first inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a changeup from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Matt Mattingly and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Tigers on top, 3-0.
Detroit manager Chris Gasparro praised his team's "businesslike approach."
