Kansas City Bats Go Silent in 4-0 Loss
|
The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Kansas City Royals, 4-0, at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals got a fine performance from left fielder Rich Rivas, who went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Ray Holmes, 14-6, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. Bobby Pekala wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
With St. Louis leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Rivas hit a fastball from Scott Bowling for a 2-run double. It was his 37th double of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 3-0.
Said losing manager Connor Gould: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."
The win for the Cardinals lifted their record to 90-72.
