Red Sox Saddle Clippers with 5-1 Loss
|
Pawtucket took on Columbus in front of a lively crowd.
Pawtucket beat Columbus on the strength of starter Alan Richardson's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-1. Richardson, the winner, moves to 5-3. He threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 1 walk.
The Red Sox got an important contribution from first baseman Dan McCartney, who in the bottom of the third punched a first pitch fastball into right for a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said McCartney.
The third-place Red Sox are now 26-18, the Clippers 22-21.
