Shuckers Handle Pensacola, Snag 6-3 Win
|
The Biloxi Shuckers picked up a win at MGM Park, dropping the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, 6-3. Sandy Valenzuela was the difference-maker. Valenzuela, the winner, moves to 3-0. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 4 walks. The win puts Biloxi at 7-4.
The Shuckers got a big at-bat from third baseman Willie Mendez. For the game, Mendez went 1-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 1st double of the season gave Biloxi a 3-0 lead.
"It was our day today," Mendez told the Biloxi Observer. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
