The bad news for the Los Angeles Angels: an opening day loss, 12-5, to the Houston Astros at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. No one played better than Jimmy McClanahan. He belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Kihachi Okuhara was the winner. He's now 1-0. The loser was former first round draft pick Fred Szilagyi.

Julian Rodriquez had a big 3-run home run for the Astros in the top of the first inning. With Houston leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Fred Szilagyi, who finished 5th in the AL in saves with 33 in 2107, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Astros on top, 5-0.

"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Rodriquez told the Houston Bulletin.
