The Biloxi Shuckers beat the Jackson Generals, 12-4, at The Ballpark at Jackson. The Shuckers got a fine performance from left fielder Ben Whitney, who went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Mike Ross earned the win to go to 2-0. He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. The win brings the Shuckers to 9-13, an inauspicious start for a team that made the playoffs last season.

With Biloxi leading 4-1 in the top of the fifth, Whitney hit a fastball from Tyler Crumley for a 3-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Shuckers ahead, 7-1.

"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Shuckers manager Ethan Isler. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
