Montgomery Tops Jacksonville, 5-4
|
The Montgomery Biscuits beat the Jacksonville Suns, 5-4, at Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Tommy Starnes, who is tied for 3rd in the SL in hits with 28, starred for Montgomery. He was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jose Esparza was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Robby Pieklo earned the save for Montgomery, his 4th of the year.
Starnes contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Montgomery in the top of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Starnes took a fastball from Cody Ross and stroked the home run to left-center. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Biscuits to leap in front, 3-1.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Starnes, "and then get after it again."
Jacksonville now has a record of 8-16.
