Montgomery got a terrific performance from pitcher Mike Buchman, but it wasn't enough to beat the Mississippi Braves. Mississippi won the Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium contest, 3-1. Buchman threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Roland Carroll picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Ken Brusky suffered the loss. The win puts Mississippi at 16-9.

Mississippi took advantage of an error in the top of the tenth inning. The game was tied, 1-1, when Juan Acevedo hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Braves in front, 2-1.

"We busted our tails," said Montgomery manager George Woolbright. "But we came up short."
