Tennessee center fielder Mike Lowery pounded Pensacola Blue Wahoos pitchers at Five County Stadium, but it was not enough to keep the Smokies from falling, 8-7. Lowery slugged 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. Zion Carter earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 3-3. The Smokies, now 10-17 this season, have struggled to play .500 ball.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for Pensacola. That's when Alex Valdivia hit a solo home run off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Jeremy Porras to win the game. The home crowd went wild.

"The crowd was juiced," said Valdivia.
