The Jackson Generals rode a solid performance from 25-year-old starting pitcher Eric Herdman to a win, beating the Mississippi Braves, 5-1, at Trustmark Park. Herdman picked up the win for Jackson, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 2-0. Paul Roe picked up the save, his 1st.
Jackson used the clutch hitting of Nick Moats to snag the win. The right fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Generals ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"Eric's not intimidated by who's stepping into the batter's box," said Jackson manager Tony Trujillo.
The loss lowers the Mississippi record to 12-15.
